Caroline Orchard

I'm inspired by the natural world; by the colours, shapes and patterns of the wildlife and landscape. The more I look, the more I see the life and beauty there is all around me, on my doorstep, in my garden and in the streets and fields nearby. I'm learning about the lives of the plants, insects and birds that are my neighbours and I am constantly amazed by the ingenuity, creativity and interconnectedness of life.

I enjoy drawing and printing-making, hand and machine embroidery, making and mending clothes. I like making things.

I've recently discovered botanical printing which is a process of bundling leaves and fabric together and steaming the bundle to transfer the plants natural dyes into the cloth. An extraordinary amount of detail and colour can be transferred and each print is unique.

Over the years I've learned various processes and now I'm interested in mixing them up and seeing what happens. I joined the group recently as an opportunity to push myself to exhibit things I make and particularly to get feedback and support from other creative beings, some who've been part of this group for many years.
