Wendy Jones
The inspiration for my work comes from the relationship with man made structures and the environmental impact on a variety of different surfaces. Rusting metal on a large ship, the layers of peeling plaster on buildings, gradually deteriorating ancient fabrics alongside the changes in the landscape all contribute to my fascination in decay.
I work using layers of recycled fabrics alongside materials dyed with tea, coffee and rust. Vintage lace creates an interesting aged effect while Gelli plate prints give depth. Hand stitches and embellishments are added to give extra dimension.
My current project is inspired by evolving plant shapes transforming into Angels seen on the Allerton Cope displayed in Taunton museum. Printing on old cloth and garment fabric patched together with hand stitching and vintage lace .
I joined the SWT group to gain experience and take part in exhibitions and workshops, while
making a great group of friends who support and encourage me to grow more involved.
